After much equivocating I have made the decision that the Nikon P7800 meets my requirements. It is somewhat (large) pocket size with a host of features including the ability to shoot in RAW, plus all manual and automatic settings. Digital view finder, tiltable LCD screen at the rear swings multi axis through 180 degrees---almost mandatory in bright tropical light conditions. 200 mm optical zoom--largest in class. I have been giving the camera a thorough weekly work-out on the streets of downtown Toronto---realizing how important it is to be able to operate the camera effectively without having to think about which button to press. Something like playing the piano. Small, and 'touristy' enough to be non-threatening to interesting people 'on the street'.
A very complete manual, downloadable from the internet--- obligatory study so as to benefit from all the features this camera offers prior to travel.
