Transit day & observations....

A word on Vientiane traffic lights. They seem to be in the process of installing them at the
Do they wash cameras also?
3% of the very largest traffic intersections in the city. They appear to be a novelty to the majority of the road
population that pilots mopeds or who operate tuk tuks in various configurations. On a red light 90%
of vehicles will stop and await green to advance. 5% will force their way through the crowd and charge across on red. Seems to be accepted and is only met by a raised eyebrow or two. The pedestrian cross lights confused me---the light to proceed to cross is RED. Must admit that I approached this crossing directive rather cautiously..

Update on my airport day. Travelling from Vientiane, Laos to Hue, Vietnam. A complete day in airports and three separate flights with exhaustive security checks to boot. First leg from Vientiane to Phnom Penh,  Cambodia. Second sector to Ho Chi Minh city (HCMC) (erstwhile Saigon) and last flight, up to the coastal citadel city of Hue. Did not leave the the airport confines but have to spend 5 hours in the transit lounge in HCMC for the Hue flight, with ample time to wander  the terminal corridors. Not a hint of the communist party seen so far.
The citizens of this southern city, as I had advised so much more stylish and 'westernized, than their comrades in the northern capital city of Hanoi. I will be interested to observe further and make my comments when I return
here later in my trip.
